چکیده

A general discussion and illustration is given of strength functions for rotational transitions in two-dimensional Eγ1 × Eγ2 spectra. Especially, a narrow component should be proportional to the compound damping width, related to the mixing of basis rotational bands into compound bands with fragmented transition strength. Three Eγ1 × Eγ2 spectra are made by setting gates on triple coincidences, selecting cascades which feed into specific low-lying bands in the nucleus Hf. In each of the gated spectra, we find a ridge, carrying about 100 decay paths. This ridge is ascribed to rotational transitions in the excitation energy range of 1.0 to 1.5 MeV above the yrast line. The FWHM of the ridges are around 40 keV, about a factor of two smaller than calculated on the basis of mixed cranked mean field bands.

Low-energy limit of the radiative dipole strength in nuclei

We explain the upbend phenomenon, which was first reported in Ref. [1], later observed systematically in the γ-ray strength functions below neutron threshold of various light and medium-mass nuclei and probed by different experimental techniques [2]. Studies of Ref. [3] have revealed that this phenomenon, occuring in various astrophysical sites, can have a significant impact on their elemental ...

Central engines of Gamma Ray Bursts. Magnetic mechanism in the collapsar model

In this study we explore the magnetic mechanism of hypernovae and relativistic jets of long duration gamma ray bursts within the collapsar scenario. This is an extension of our earlier work[1]. We track the collapse of massive rotating stars onto a rotating central black hole using axisymmetric general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic code that utilizes a realistic equation of state and takes i...

Flynn 1 Physics 518 -quantum Mechanics Iii

The Mössbauer effect was first described by Rudolf Mössbauer in 1957. The effect describes how nuclei can emit or absorb gamma-rays without recoiling under certain circumstances. When a free nuclei emits or absorbs gamma-rays, it recoils as a result of energy and momentum conservation. As a result, if a free nucleus undergoes a transition from an excited state to its ground state by emitting ga...
